Chikage Windler is the new chief meteorologist at KEYE 42 in Austin reports IBJ.com. She comes to Texas from WTHR 13 in Indianapolis.

"Thank you for watching and counting on me for your forecasts here," Windler wrote on her station Facebook page. "It's been an honor."

At WTHR, Windler gave the weather forecasts on both the weekend and weeknight editions of the newscasts. Previously she worked at KSTP Minneapolis-St. Paul, WHDH Boston, WRC Washington, D.C., TXCN Dallas and WVEC in Norfolk. According to her bio, she also did guest weather stints on ABC's "Good Morning America" and "ABC World News."

Windler graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a B.S. in Meteorology and a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism.

The WTHR website mentions that people ask Chikage about her name. According to the site, it's a Japanese name since she is half-Japanese. It means "thousands of views or vistas."

Windler will be replacing the departed KEYE chief Troy Kimmel. Kimmel, who began working in Austin at KVUE in 1984, left KEYE in December.

“My job is to please them, not them to please me, so I went to them and said I need to get out of the way,” Kimmel told Austin blogger Bill Church in December. “I have respect for the company. If I’m not making them happy, I don’t need my contract holding them back. I don’t want it ever said I stood in the way of a TV station being successful.”

Windler starts at KEYE March 4th.
